Divination 

Divinations (also called readings) is the practice of surfacing hidden knowledge by connecting with spirits, deities, and cosmic energies as well as the diviner’s higher consciousness. This uncovered knowledge is offered to a querent (the person receiving the divination) for their own use.  

Lama Rod’s primary divination modality is Dagara Medicine. The Dagara Tradition is the main spiritual tradition of the peoples of Burkino Faso and many parts of Ghana. The tradition focuses on community connection, ancestor veneration, and deep respect for the spirit world. It was popularized through the work of Elder Malidoma Patrice Somé and his wife Sobonfu Somé. Lama Rod has been initiated as a Diviner in this tradition since 2024. Lama Rod descends from Dagara People and was called by his Elder and the spirits to reclaim his ancestral medicine. 

Dagara divination is an intentional and protected time to connect to the insight and wisdom of other spirits so they may offer insight for a querent. Spirits will most often include ancestors, as well as deities and various beings present to be of benefit. There is no limitation to the range of the reading as there can be insight into the past, future, and present. The reading may speak to others connected to the client as well. 

A Dagara reading relies on spirit pieces or small objects assigned intuitive meaning that help the diviner interpret and communicate insights. Along with the traditional spirit pieces, Lama Rod also relies on his own channeling capacities and is sometimes supported by divination cards as well. 

If necessary, the session may conclude with practice and ritual protocols which will be offered to the client to support what is needed to bring about a positive outcome in their life.

Many people may be drawn to get a divination and not fully know why. This was the case for Lama Rod when he reached out to the diviner who would become his Elder in the Dagara tradition. Lama Rod only asks a potential querent to have a strong sense of compassion for themselves and others. This attitude helps draw in insights that can deeply support the querent and others around them. 

Regardless of spiritual or religious beliefs, knowledge surfaced in a divination is for the good of the querent. What a good querent must possess is open mindedness, curiosity, and just as importantly, a belief in various ways of knowing.
